A group of girls talk about daydreaming and sleeping in class when one admits to have a dream about someone confessing their love to them. The episode follows Ayumi Akihara, a short blonde haired girl within the series. A conversation ensues about getting confessed by someone or anyone and which is better? Our lead Akihara has been dreaming of someone confessing to her for a while without really considering anything like looks or mutual attraction and goes as far as to say that she’d go out with anyone who confessed to her. At this moment, a large scary looking male who towers above them all appears. Fearful for their lives all the girls except Akihara runs away as she grovels to this large man to spare her life. When she realizes she’s not hurt she looks to her left to find him in hand with a letter. As it turns out, it’s a confessional. His name is Zaitsu Misao and he replies with you can answer me later, while blushing and walks away. The girls return only to belittle the situation by claiming that she should accept since she just recently mentioned accepting anyone who confessed. She begins to rethink this when a member of group mentions that she might be harmed if she declines.
At home, Akihara continues to think about her situation over dinner and she overhears a news program where a girl was physically harmed by rejecting a confession from a man. She skips dinner when her overactive imagination takes over and she fears the worst about this, her brother comes to see what’s wrong. After getting decked, she asks his brother to beat up Zaitsu Misao, which causes a terrible reaction from her brother of fear and panic saying things like “You can’t just blurt out that name…” She goes to sleep after this frustrated about her situation. The next morning as she leaves her house, Misao is waiting wanting to walk her to school. As they walk, girls have turned away, kindergarten children begin to cry as she thinks to herself of how scary this guy is. Akihara feels that if she just continues that perhaps he’ll give up walking to and from school but this goes on for a week. She goes on to say that the stress of this issue has cost her sleep because of the nightmares she gets from Misao following her all the time and so her friends tell her to go to the nurse. After stating that she’s too tired to move, a guy from the class whose goal is to be a paramedic picks her up “carrying her like a princess” to the nurses office. At this point her imagination runs while picturing this guy as a prince. As she calls to him to say thanks, she realizes that this new guy is related to Misao and faints.
When she recovers her friends speak with her, she decides to say that she needs some time to think to Misao, unsure of what she feels about the situation. She then gets approached by a hooded man who then kidnaps her. The scene cuts to Misao in the hospital. Remarking that all he had in his hand was her smile, he awakes screaming her name. As a recap of a serious fight, he realized that he didn’t want to die before telling her how he felt. At that moment he gets a call from a rival gang. He rushes out to save Ayumi. The plot explained to Ayumi about how sincere Misao is about his confession and how they used her to lure him out only worsens her feelings as she confesses that he won’t come because of what she said to him earlier. He still shows up, beating down two guys immediately. He then says that he’s sorry that he’s late and she mentions that she wasn’t sure he would come. The tables turn when the thugs threaten to expose her privates if he doesn’t allow them to beat him up. She then tells Misao to fight and not to worry about her and to uphold his dignity. She then slips out of the ropes and knees the hooded thug who kidnapped her remarking that the ropes were never tight but that she stayed still because she didn’t think she could get away. After Misao takes care of the rest of the guys, he asks Akihara if she’s ok. She answers with a roundhouse kick to the face stating that she was really scared knocking him down and earning the title of the strongest person in the room. Misao’s brother looking from the window cowering in fear.
As Akihara and friends walk towards school, Misao looks from afar warmly while Akihara remarks that her journey of love has just started.
I haven't seen a lot of these shows in a while, considering the last big title to make it stateside was the "Boys Be" series that came out in (look up when the title was produced in Japan). That being said I was rather optimistic about a vignette of short love stories from the perspective of young girls. I believe that these girls are in junior high though that really doesn't make much of a difference within this review. The story keeps you entertained as you remember your own past experiences when watching episodes of this show. This episode in particular was great simply because it was just well paced. The expressions that Akihara has vs Misao's gentle yet fierce personality really made the story not just believable but quite comedic in delivery. This show certainly has some promise as this is a great representation of the entire series. I hope that this series continues in the same vain and not just a fluke.
